Many women have issues with hormones, weight gain, thyroid problems, allergies to common foods that they once were able to eat, fertility, miscarriages, and more. Was this as prevalent 15 years ago? No. Care to know why?
One of the biggest reasons revolves around toxic exposures.
Our skin is our largest organ, and anything we put on it can get absorbed into our bloodstream within 26 seconds.
A study led by researchers at UC Berkeley demonstrated how even a short break from certain kinds of makeup, shampoos and lotions can lead to a significant drop in levels of hormone-disrupting chemicals in the body.
Some of the Many Ingredients to Avoid:
Butylene or Propylene Glycol: found in anti-freeze & brake & hydraulic fluid. It can cause an increased skin reaction in people with sensitive skin.
Isopropyl Alchohol: may cause premature aging of skin. Also found in anti-freeze. It strips skin of natural acid mantle, promoting growth of bacteria. It can cause headaches, flushed skin, dizziness, nausea & vomiting, & mental depression according to the Consumer’s Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients.
Tetrasodium EDTA: contains formaldehyde & a known skin & lung irritant.
Disodium EDTA: neurotoxin linked to brain damage and liver changes in animals.
Diazolidinyl Urea: this chemical releases formaldehyde into your body. Mayo Clinic says formaldehyde can irritate the respiratory system, cause skin reactions, trigger heart palpations, immune system toxicity, and cancer in humans. Exposure may cause joint pain, depression, headaches, dizziness, loss of sleep, chronic fatigue, ear infections, allergies, & chest pains. It can also trigger asthma & aggravate colds. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen found in baby care products, skincare, antiperspirants, and hair dyes.
Methylparaben & Propylparaben: directly linked to breast cancer. In mice it had weak estrogenic effects which caused damage to the sperm formation in the testes. It may contribute to sterility in males, hormone imbalances in females, and cause early puberty. A relative of methylparaben, sodium methylparaben has been banned in the E.U. Some other common names for paraben’s are ethyl-, butyl-, & isobutyl- all ending with paraben. These do not have to be labeled, so sometimes companies will not list within ingredients panel.
BHT: this fragrance has been linked to organ system toxicity and a known skin, eye, and lung irritant. I know you think these kinds of things smell good, but they are so bad for you. Once you stop using them and your body begins detoxing from the daily toxins, I promise you won’t miss them because they really won’t smell good anymore.
BPA: a synthetic estrogen hormone that can leach out of things like plastics, and disrupt your hormones, as well have other negative health effects. This one isn’t likely to show up on ingredients lists, but his found in food packaging, clothing, water bottles and more. Here is my guide to BPA:
PFAS: this is another one that doesn’t show up on ingredients lists but is pervasive in a kinds of products. “PFAS can also alter levels of both mothers’ and babies’ thyroid hormones, which oversee brain development, growth and metabolism, and also play a role in immunity.” (Source.) Ceterareth-20: ENHANCES the absorption of ALL above chemicals.
What You Can Do:
Now remember… Infertility and all other ailments are a multifaceted problem… no one thing is the reason – food, toxicants, inability to detoxify, lack of adequate nutrients/water/rest, lack of self-care, genetics, pharm overuse, etc.
The good news is we DO have some level of control by choosing nutrient-dense real food, whole-food plant-based supplements, water intake, rest, movement, self-care, reducing toxic load intake, reducing or eliminating pharmaceuticals and OTC drugs. All of this gives us back control. Even over supposed “genetics.”
We can do better, because although the FDA should be the one looking out for us, they’re not. It’s all up to us to make better choices.
It sounds like a lot of work and it can be, but once you get your groove, it becomes easier, second nature and you will feel SO much better, it won’t be work anymore… back in the day people had to shed blood, sweat and tears just to survive daily, to get food on the table… for us, THIS is where we put in that level of effort just to survive in a sick world.
It’s your health, it’s an investment and it’s the biggest and best investment you will ever make and the dividends will be priceless, because you cannot put a price on your health.
Throw all your chemical skincare in the trash.
Throw all your chemical cleaning products in the trash.
Research ingredients, anything you can’t pronounce, research it. The EWG Skin Deep database is a great resource for looking up individual ingredients (I don’t recommend looking at the ratings for finished products).
Now check your food and do the same.
This crap is hidden everywhere! Be sure to research “natural” companies as well. Many are bought out by big corporations and often they will change ingredients without telling you.
