I collected several links about food additives including carrageenan, that are still found even in organic processed foods:
1. 50 Jawdroppingly Toxic Food Ingredients & Artificial Additives to Avoid:
2. THE FOOD INGREDIENT THAT COULD BE MESSING WITH YOUR GUT.
“Emulsifiers such as polysorbate 80, lecithin, carrageenan, polyglycerols, and xanthan and other “gums,” all of which keep ingredients—often oils and fats—from separating. They are also used to improve the texture and shelf-life of many foods found on supermarket shelves, from ice cream and baked goods, to salad dressings, veggie burgers, non-dairy milks, and hamburger patties. A new study released today in the journal Nature suggests these ingredients may also be contributing to the rising incidence of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease by interfering with microbes in the gastrointestinal tract. This news may surprise consumers, given the fact that emulsifiers are approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and appear in many foods otherwise considered “healthy,” including some in which their presence helps to reduce trans fats and gluten, and many labeled organic and non-GMO.”
Remember, research that has compared all “diets” found that the healthiest are those that are minimally processed.
3. Carrageenan: Carcinogen Allowed in Organic Food.
“Carrageenan is so toxic and inflaming to the human digestive system that this food additive is formally classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (part of the World Health Organization) as a potential human carcinogen. Scientists first discovered that carrageenan causes gut inflammation as far back as the 1960’s. Inflammation is a very serious condition as it is a primary symptom in IBS, Crohn’s Disease, ulcerative colitis, and colon cancer as well as dozens of other diseases.
CARRAGEENAN’S Other Names: Algas, Algue Rouge Marine, Carrageen, Carrageenin, Carragenano, Carragenina, Carragheenan, Carraghénane, Carraghénine, Chondrus crispus, Chondrus Extract, Euchema species, Extrait de Mousse d’Irlande, Galgarine, Gigartina chamissoi, Gigartina mamillosa, Gigartina skottsbergii, Irish Moss Algae, Irish Moss Extract, Mousse d’Irlande, Red Marine Algae.
Supposedly food manufacturers can’t lie to you about the nutrition and ingredients of their products. Ingredient labels are like a book that’s missing a few chapters — you’re not getting the whole story. Included on many packages are vague words like “spices,” “seasonings” and the ever-popular “added color.” That’s not lying or omitting ingredients but that’s not very specific.”

4. Carrageenan Weakens the Immune System and Causes Chronic Disease:
“Although the biological pathways by which carrageenan disrupts normal and health sustaining functions, such as regulating insulin, consistent findings support that it results in a harmful immune response.
Carrageenan resembles a naturally occurring sulfate compound in our bodies that is involved with enzyme function in our intestines. With carrageenan receiving all of the attention, normal cell function and regulation is altered when normal activity by our very own enzymes becomes inhibited.
Possibly due to its high reactivity, carrageenan can interfere with a healthy immune response by altering the body’s natural army front of antibodies. Antibodies send signals warning our immune system that a foreign invader has entered and to attack. An unhealthy immune response can lead to inflammation of the gastrointestinal system causing a variety of complications.”
